Vicky Mackinlay BSc (Hons) Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, RCSLT, HCPC, ASLTIP
I am a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist with over 16 years experience. I have specialised in practising speech and language therapy for children 0-18 in clinics, in their own homes or in education settings with a wide range of communication needs. The majority of my experience has been working for the NHS in Wales and then in Surrey. If your child already has an NHS speech therapist then I am more than happy to liaise with them so I can compliment the treatment they are already receiving.
I strongly believe that early regular help for children when they are little, makes a significant difference in the outcomes for the children’s futures. Lots of children struggle with talking and it can be a daunting task for parents to know what best to do for their child.

What I do.
- I will always start my support by assessing your child in the setting that you request. Part of that assessment will be talking with parents and if appropriate, nursery/school staff, to gain a complete picture of how your child is communicating and the everyday difficulties they are having.
- Following an assessment, a report will be written to be shared with whoever you wish this to be distributed to. It is often helpful to work with nursery settings/school settings as early on in the process as possible.
- If needed, then an individual therapy pathway will be agreed with parents and therapy offered to start to improve your child's talking.
- If you feel that your child is not ready for direct therapy, following assessment, then a single demonstration session of things you can be doing with you child to help can be given. You can then come back for therapy in the future if needed.
Depending on the communication difficultly your child is having, therapy can take 2-3 sessions or several years of support. The sessions can happen as often as you think is needed. Each therapy programme is tailor made to your child's needs.
You can request re-assessments and updated reports throughout the therapy sessions as needed. When you feel that your child no longer needs support a final assessment can be provided and report written.
